Jackman Gets a Feel for Real Steel - Hugh Jackman has joined director Shawn Levy for the sci-fi sports drama Real Steel, based on a story by Richard Matheson (I Am Legend). Jackman portrays an ex-fighter who becomes a winning promoter for giant robot fights after uncovering an apparently unbeatable discarded robot, just as he bonds to his newly-discovered 13-year old son.

January 15, 2010: Updated the site with a review of the contemporary adaptation of the classic detective Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr. as well as a video review for the light family fare Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and the Hong Kong action flick Legendary Assassin.

January 8, 2010: Added a review for the latest Disney animated fare, The Princess and the Frog, now playing to kids everywhere, plus a couple of vmapire-themed video reviews for the anime-to-live-action adaptation of Blood The Last Vampire, and the 1979 German production of Nosferatu,The Vampyre starring Klaus Kinski.

January 1, 2010: Happy New Year!

Put up a review for what is likely to be one of 2009's Oscar contenders, the dramatic comedy Up In the Air starring George Clooney, plus video reviews for the animated Pixar adventure UP and the Nazi zombie flick Dead Snow.

December 25, 2009: Merry Christmas!

Here's a review for the long-awaited James Cameron sci-fi epic Avatar, now in theatres, and it was worth the wait!  Also added two video reviews, this time for the goofy comedy of errors Burn After Reading starring a whole bunch of A-list actors and one for the 1924 Russian sci-fi "classic" Aelita, The Queen of Mars.

December 18, 2009: Three new videos reviews are up today, including one for the urban thriller remake The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 starring John Travolta, the Hong Kong action flick Ip Man, and the PG-13 animated comic adaptation Green Lantern: First Flight.

December 11, 2009: Here's a review for the teen sensation of the season, the vampire romance sequel New Moon, now biting its way into box-office history, along with a couple of video reviews for the Hong Kong crime thriller Infernal Affairs 3 and the tired romantic comedy Six Days, Seven Nights with Harrison Ford.

December 4, 2009: Another theatrical review is up this week, this time for the revenge thriller Law Abiding Citizen starring Gerard Butler. Also added a video review for the visually splendid fairy-tale The Fall and the semi-classic 50's sci-fi flick The Thing From Another World.

November 27, 2009: Added a review for the CGI-adaptation of the classic yuletide tale Disney's A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey, as well as two video reviews including the Quebec satire The Days of Darkness and the buoyant Hong Kong crime flick The Sparrow.

November 20, 2009: Put up a review for the disaster flick 2012, now in theatres, as well as video reviews for the superb Chinese epic Red Cliff Part 2 (a US version of which hits theatres today) and one for the flaky sci-fi actioner Babylon A.D. starring Vin Diesel.

November 13, 2009: Threw in a couple of reviews for two recent CI animated releases, including one for the latest installment of the franchise Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and one for the drab, infantile space opera Battle for Terra

November 6, 2009: Two more video reviews are up this week, one for the summer's biggest guilty pleasure and biggest box-office smash Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and another for the Disney / BBC documentary Earth.

Also, finally put up my list of Best of 2007 (yes, just in time for the end of 2009's pickings!  Better late...).

Also added a Top 20 category for Top 20 Best Comic-Book Adaptations, and not just the super-hero variety, and one for Top 20 Best Documentaries.

October 30, 2009: Added a review for the Thai period martial arts flick Ong Bak 2, now playing in select theatres on limited release, as well as a video review for the wrenching Polytechnique, about the account of the Quebec university massacre of 1989.  And, just for Halloween, there's a review for Sam Raimi's schlock-fest Drag Me to Hell.
