What can I say about French films? I grew up watching as many French films as American ones, and though they lack the large budgets or international stars, they have, for the most part, been no less intense, dramatic or touching than the very best of Hollywood productions. That's because, for one, French films seem to focus on the characters and the story above all else, and that the European flavor of these films are worlds away from the American filmmaking mentality.
Whatever the reason, French films have a special place in my heart, and here are, as best I can remember, the films that have marked me as being the best of French cinema.
